“Nicola’s perspectives and use of light and colour create a sensation of being inside the painting’s space. Wheston explores the richness of the natural world focusing on a small moment within the intricacies of a tree’s bark, the movements of its branches, a root system of a fallen tree beside the ocean rather than long distance vistas filled with complicated compositional elements. Her landscapes surround the viewer with swaying foliage, air tinted green from the sunlight streaming through the leaf filled canopy, the scent of heated ground and water as it laps the shores.”
